The 2019 Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) was the 10th annual tournament. It happened on October 19-20, 2019.
Last year, Joseph Saelee defeated 7-time champion, Jonas Neubauer, in the Finals to win the tournament. This inspired a new generation of players to play NES Tetris and master the game.
The qualifying round was the same as before where players lined up to play 1 game and returned to the line when they were done. The lines increased dramatically this year which limited the number of game attempts the players had. aGameScout explains the situation in his video.
Tournament format changed drastically. The bracket expanded from Top 40 to Top 48. The Top 16 seeds had a bye to Round 1, while Seeds 17-48 started in Round 0.
The Top 8 rounds and beyond were Best of 5, while the early rounds were a Best of 3.
