In 2012, the Classic Tetris World Championship had a permanent venue which was the Portland Retro Gaming Expo (PRGE). This was a fitting venue since the tournament appealed to the expo’s target audience.
With the venue taken care of, the organizers were able to expand the tournament bracket from 8-players to 32-players. They even had the money to hire a man with a fog cannon to show up at the end of the final game.
In this tournament, the qualifying round was played on Type A. The Top 32 were qualified for the main bracket. The Final round was a Best of 5, while all the other rounds were a Best of 3.
So far, the only videos from the tournament were from the Quarterfinals and beyond.
