The 2018 Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) is the 9th annual tournament.
“Boom! Tetris For Jeff!” meme made the 2016 finals go viral. It brought new fans to the tournament, including 16-year old Joseph Saelee.
This year, the organizers brought in Arda Ocal, who joined as a commentator and host.
The tournament format changed in terms of the bracket. It expanded from 32-player bracket to a 40-player bracket. Seeds 25-40 compete in Round 0 for 8 remaining spots in Round 1.
For the first time in 7 years, all of the matches were recorded. Matches on the side stage were livestreamed on Jonas Neubauer’s Twitch Channel, Nubbinsgoody.
