2024 Classic Tetris World Championship Will Be In Pasadena, California

The 2024 Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC) will be at the SoCal Retro Gaming Expo in Pasadena, California on June 7-9.

In a surprise announcement, the Classic Tetris World Championship has relocated from Portland, Oregon to Pasadena, California.

From 2012-2019 and 2022-2023, the tournament was held at the Portland Retro Gaming Expo in Portland, Oregon.

Prior to the 2023 CTWC, 2 of the main organizers had announced that they had retired from their roles. Vince Clemente became the president of the Classic Tetris World Championship. There was a new team organizing the tournament.

Most of the main staff that organize the events live in the Southern California region. Logistically, it made sense to have the tournament in the Los Angeles area.

The first 2 tournaments were held in Los Angeles at Downtown Independent Theater and USC, in 2010 and 2011, respectively. It became a full circle to have the World Championship come back to Southern California.

Tournament Format

Qualifying Round is the same as last year. Players get a 2-hour session. They are ranked by the number of maxouts, with the highest non maxout score (kicker) used as a tiebreaker.

Seeds 1-48 (48 players) advance to Gold Bracket
Seeds 49-80 (32 players) advance to Silver Bracket
Seeds 81-112 (32 players) advance to Bronze Bracket

Format for Gold Bracket and Silver Bracket are the same as last year. Only players in the Gold Bracket have a chance to become the World Champion.
