Before the Tetris matches start on the last day of the Classic Tetris World Championship (CTWC), someone performs the Tetris anthem. Which is the Tetris theme song that everyone is familiar with. Traditionally, everyone stands up right before the anthem is played.
After having 7 annual Tetris tournaments, the organizers decided to have an anthem. Typically, the National Anthem is played before a sporting event in the United States. The Tetris theme was the song they were going to use for the anthem at the Classic Tetris World Championship.
In 2017, the President of CTWC, Vince Clemente, brought Sergio Elisondo (of Sergio and the Holograms) to perform the Tetris anthem. It was Steve Deluca who recommended giving the gig to Sergio. Vince already knew Sergio beforehand, which also helped Sergio land the gig.

Since then, he has performed the anthem every year. It has become a tradition at the Classic Tetris World Championship.
Here is another performance which is from CTWC 2019.
Sergio and the Holograms used this video for CTWC 2020 and 2021, which happened online due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In that video, he used a combination of raw live guitar, punk and, metal versions of the Tetris theme to create the anthem.

My Initial Thoughts
The Classic Tetris World Championship is entertaining to watch. Adding the Tetris anthem to their competitions was an added bonus to the tournament.
