Dog Wins The 2020 Classic Tetris World Championship

Dog Just Won The 2020 CTWC
Dog takes a drink after winning the 2020 Classic Tetris World Championship.

Dog discovered the CTWC after watching the 2018 Finals. In the summer of 2019, he started playing NES Tetris himself.

He later founded Classic Tetris Brawl (CTB) in November 2019. The CTB is an online server that hosts monthly divisional tournaments and events. To learn more about it, join their Discord.

On December 2019, he got his first Maxout, making him the youngest person to do so.

Dog Makes His CTWC Debut

Dog registered for the 2020 CTWC which was held online due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. In Qualifying, he maxout 6 times to clinch the #4 seed.

He competed in Group C which was double elimination. He swept Marq and Pepe in Rounds 1 and 2 respectively.

In the Group C Winner’s Bracket Finals, he lost the first game against Koryan. But, Dog won the next 3 games to advance to the Bracket Grand Finals.

In the Group C Grand Finals, he swept Koryan to advance to the Top 8. During that match, he managed to win the last 2 games with thin margins.

For more info, on his early round performance, you can check out the article I did on the Top 8 players.

Dog’s CTWC Top 8 Performance

Dog clinched the #1 seed since he only lost one game in the early rounds.

To start off the Top 8 Matches, Dog faced Cheez (#8 seed) in the Quarterfinals. Cheez won Game 1 after Dog topped out at Level 19. Dog won Game 2 after scoring a maxout and reaching Level 32. He won the next 2 games to win the match.

In the Semifinals, he faced Huff (#5 seed). Dog won the first game with a 1.1 Million. Huff won Game 2, while Dog won Game 3. In Game 4, Dog won with another 1.1 Million, which beat Huff’s maxout score, to win the game and match.

In the Finals, Dog faced his brother, PixelAndy (#3 seed). PixelAndy won Game 1 with a 1.1 Million to beat Dog’s maxout score. He also won the second game. However, Dog won the next 2 games to force a decisive Game 5.

Check out this moment in Game 3, where Dog managed to save himself from being swept.

In the final game, both players reached the kill screen, but Dog scored a maxout to win the game and overcome an 0-2 game deficit. With that, Dog became the 2020 CTWC Champion at the age of 13.
